There’s no Magic in Arenas’ game
By FRANK ZICARELLI, QMI Agency

TORONTO - No longer does Gilbert Arenas refer to himself as Agent Zero, but he’s had zero impact in Orlando, where the Magic continues to hope for a breakout performance.

Heading into Monday’s meeting with Detroit, Arenas hasn’t reached double digits in scoring in eight games.

In Orlando, Arenas averages 21.1 minutes, 8.4 points on 36% shooting and 4.1 assists, totals that are well below what he posted in Washington.

A backup point with the Magic, Arenas has appeared in 18 games, but has yet to find his rhythm.

Point guards are an extension of their coach.

When the two aren’t on the same page, it can make for a lengthy adjustment period.

“Gil is struggling,’’ Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy said of Arenas.“The biggest thing he is struggling with now is me.

“I’m harder on point guards than anyone else. He’s not playing with a great deal of enthusiasm. He’s not enjoying playing. And I’m a big reason. There is an adjustment he’s going to have to make.’’

Whether it was injury related or his infamous guns-possession suspension, Arenas was limited to 47 games in his last three seasons prior to this year.
