AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Celtics forward Kevin Garnett will have an MRI Thursday on his injured right leg, the team said.

Garnett left Wednesday's loss to the Detroit Pistons and didn't return, sitting out the rest of the game with what the team said was a muscle injury to the outside of the leg below his knee and above the ankle.

He went up for a dunk late in the first quarter, hung on the rim and landed softly but was limping afterward and went in for X-rays.

Boston head coach Doc Rivers said he didn't think the injury was serious.

"I don't think it's bad, so I'm not that concerned," Rivers said. "He may miss some games."

Garnett has started all 30 games for Boston this season and was averaging 15.4 points and 9.8 rebounds entering Wednesday's game.
