BOSTON - Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge told a local radio station that All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo will miss "a couple of weeks" due to a sprained ankle.
Rondo suffered the injury in Wednesday's game over the New York Knicks. He played over 34 minutes in the thrilling 118-116 win, totaling 10 points and three assists.
Ainge told WEEI of the somber news Thursday, hours before Boston was set to host the Atlanta Hawks.
The fifth-year guard has missed several games this season with injuries, including problems with his hamstring and plantar fasciitis in his foot.
Through 20 games this year, Rondo leads the league in assists per game (13.8) to go along with 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per contest.
