TORONTO - The kids are alright.

This year’s rookie crop has already impressed, even just a week into the season.

Clippers forward Blake Griffin (still a rookie because an injury kept him out all of last year) has been a treat to watch, compiling 16.7 point, 11.0 rebound, 1.3 steals per game numbers through three appearances.

Meanwhile, his closest competitors for rookie of the year have excelled as well. John Wall averaged 21 points and nine assists through two games for Washington, while Sacramento centre DeMarcus Cousins wowed with 13.3 point/7.3 rebound averages through three.

Biggest rookie surprise has been New York Knicks guard Landry Fields.

Most draft observers said, “Who the hell is that?” when the team grabbed Fields.

He has responded with standout defence and 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds in three starts.
