Rockets win in Beijing

BEIJING -- Kevin Martin scored 18 points and Yao Ming finished with nine points and four rebounds, as the Houston Rockets posted a 91-81 victory over the New Jersey Nets at the Wukesong Arena.

The Rockets and Nets will play again on Saturday in Guangzhou as part of the NBA's China Series. It marks the fifth set of preseason games in China for the league.

Yao, who missed the entire 2009-10 season recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left foot, played 19 minutes in front of a cheering crowd of nearly 17,000. He made 4-of-6 field goals, while adding an assist and a pair of steals.

Aaron Brooks chipped in 17 points for Rockets, who won for the third time in five preseason games. Chase Budinger and Jared Jeffries each contributed 12 points in the victory.

Brook Lopez led the Nets with 22 points and Terrence Williams added 20 with eight rebounds. Devin Harris finished with 19 points and seven assists in defeat, the second in five preseason games for New Jersey.

The Rockets scored the final nine points of the first quarter, including six from Brooks, to open a 33-23 lead, then led by as many as 15 in the second quarter before taking a 53-42 advantage to the break.

New Jersey opened the second half with the first seven points to pull within four and got as close as one on a three-point play by Harris before heading to the fourth down just 69-67. It stayed close for a majority of the final 12 minutes, but Houston pulled away over the final four minutes with a 9-3 run.
