O'Neal injury adds to insult

As bad as an overtime loss to the New Jersey Nets with Vince Carter sinking the winning basket is, it still can get much worse.

This morning the Raptors will find out how much damage Jermaine O'Neal did to his already surgically repaired left knee.

O'Neal left the game 23 seconds into the fourth quarter when he went up in a crowd of blue jerseys and came down awkwardly on that left leg that seemed to buckle under him.

O'Neal was in obvious pain, rolling around the court as the Raptors trainers and head coach Sam Mitchell rushed out to attend to him.

FLAGRANT FOUL

Replays clearly showed New Jersey's Sean Williams tugging on the back of O'Neal's jersey as he went up, leading to the ugly landing. Williams was assessed a flagrant foul.

O'Neal did manage to get up and walk around -- albeit gingerly. The positive news is that he was wearing a brace on the knee and the hope has to be that it prevented any serious damage.

O'Neal was able to take his two foul shots (both misses) but then left the game for good to a second ovation as the sellout crowd chanted his name.

O'Neal was taken to hospital and underwent further tests but until the doctors who saw him last night confer with the team doctors, the team will not be making any official announcement of his status.
