NEW ORLEANS -- Jason Kapono may have some serious competition in tonight's three-point shooting contest if last night's Rookie Challenge game is any indication.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel (Boobie) Gibson knocked down a game-record 11 three-pointers for the sophomores to snare MVP honours in a 136-109 win over the rookies last night.

With LeBron James cheering him on from the courtside seats Gibson tied the game record of seven threes in the first half and then added four more in the second to make the record his own.

Andrea Bargnani, who started for the sophomores managed just eight points last night while the other Raptor in the game, rookie, Jamario Moon, was six of eight from the field for the rookies in a 13-point night.

STORIES FOR THE KIDS

Kapono already has bragging rights. Now he's looking for a little added ammunition for his old age.

The NBA's defending three-point shooting champ says his title of a year ago will serve him well when that time comes when his children are old enough to start getting on his case.

"When I'm 35, 40 or 45 and they tell me I'm a scrub I can at least tell them I was the best for one year," Kapono said.

STIFF SHAQ?

Steve Nash has been through enough of these all-star games that he's comfortable having a little fun and that's exactly what he was doing yesterday at the annual media day portion of the all-star weekend.

Not surprisingly, one of the first questions he was asked was about new teammate Shaquille O'Neal.

"He's boring," Nash began to plenty of laughs. "We're going to try to get him out a little bit, liven him up and get him comfortable with the cameras and microphones."
