Grunwald-Thomas reunion?

Former Raptors general manager Glen Grunwald reportedly is a candidate to join the New York Knicks front office.

According to the New York Daily News, Grunwald is "the leading candidate" to be hired by president/head coach Isiah Thomas prior to the beginning of the NBA regular season.

Grunwald and Thomas have been acquaintances since their playing days at the University of Indiana. Following his stellar NBA career, Thomas hired Grunwald with the expansion Raptors.

After Thomas was fired in Toronto, Grunwald remained with the NBA team as GM from 1998 to 2004. He is now president and CEO of The Toronto Board of Trade.

Calls to Grunwald's home and office were not returned yesterday. Although the Daily News suggests Grunwald could be hired in New York, there is no guarantee he would agree to relocate to the Big Apple, as he has turned down positions in the past outside of the Toronto area. A few years back, he became a Canadian citizen and, along with his wife Heather Bird, is raising a young family north of the city.

Thomas has his hands full with the chronically under-achieving Knicks, particularly since the firing of coach Larry Brown.
