Phil Handy is an ideal fit to Jay Triano’s coaching staff with the Canadian men’s basketball squad.

The former NBA player and current Cleveland assistant coach also should help enhance a potentially symbiotic relationship between Canada Basketball and the Cavaliers, a team that currently has four Canucks on its roster (though a trade for Kevin Love involving Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett, of course, could alter that).

“It’s a great experience. For me it all started when I was with the Lakers (starting in 2011) and me and (Canadian general manager) Steve Nash were working together, that’s what kind of got me involved with Canada Basketball,” Handy told the Sun earlier this week.
