DETROIT - Max Scherzer has accomplished a few things since he left Parkway Central High in Chesterfield, Mo., outside of St. Louis.
He was a first-round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks off the University of Missouri Tigers Columbia campus, as the 11th overall pick in North America in 2006.
He has been a member in good standing of a starting rotation for the past five years, one season with the Diamondbacks and the last four with the Detroit Tigers.
He was the American League starter in July the all-star game at Citi Field.
And he is the odds-on favourite to win the American League Cy Young award this season after a 21-3 record, a 2.90 ERA and 240 strikeouts in 2141/3 innings.
“The coolest thing I’ve ever seen him do was on Saturday when he walked into his press conference at Fenway Park,” said Missouri Tigers coach Tim Jamieson on Monday.
