BOSTON - Once upon a time in the baseball playoffs, there was wonder and mystery when the other team came to town in October.

That was, of course, in a time when the only playoff that existed was the World Series and the two combatants might not have played each other in years or decades or maybe even never before.

This can’t be said of this American League Division Series between the Rays and the Red Sox. These two American League East teams have played each other 19 times this season and more than 200 times in the last 10 years. Let’s just say the Rays probably didn’t need any guidance from the hotel concierge where to go for dinner on their rare night off in Beantown on Thursday. My gosh, the Rays probably know more about what’s what in Boston than some of the Red Sox.

They have game-planned against each other so many times now that each new skirmish requires only a new scribble or two on that dog-eared document.

No, there are no secrets, and both teams know it.
