TORONTO - Team Canada began its exhibition schedule before the IBAF World Cup and Pan Am Games with a 1-1 tie against Team USA at Cary, N.C., on Tuesday.

Georgetown’s Shawn Hill, North Vancouver’s Scott Richmond, and Edmonton’s Mike Johnson pitched two scoreless apiece. Calgary’s Jimmy Henderson allowed a solo homer in the seventh.

Jimmy Van Ostrand of Richmond, B.C., doubled in the fourth and scored on a single by Shawn Bowman of Port Moody B.C.

METS BEAT OTTAWA

Gareth Morgan was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as the Toronto Mets beat the Ottawa-Nepean Canadians 7-3 in the final of the Brawl in the Fall at Greg Cranker field in Mississauga.

Yuji Suzuki scattered four hits for coach Ryan McBride’s Mets with JD Osborne gaining the save with two scoreless innings. David Marcus had two hits and knocked in two runs.

Jack Dennis struck out six in the Mets’ opener, a 7-2 win over the Ontario Terriers, as shortstop Mitch Triolo had a two-run homer.

Lefty Adam Jafine struck out seven in five innings as the Mets beat Team Ontario 12-6, thanks to third baseman John Caputo’s double and three RBIs.

Right-hander Andrew Simonetti struck out nine and scattered four hits in a complete-game effort in a 7-4 win over the Windsor Selects. Brendan Keys and Zach Lampreia had two hits and two RBIs each.

The Mets closed out the round-robin with a perfect 4-0 record by beating Ottawa 9-3. Jeremy Newton tossed a complete game, striking out six, and allowing four hits.

Ledger was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

A NO-NO

Paul Anderson pitched a no-hitter as Oakville Royals 18U blanked Fort Worth 13-0 on their swing through Texas. Nathan Halliday won the nightcap, knocking off the Fort Worth Monarchs 6-2.

The Royals lost 7-6 to Northeast Texas Community College at Mt. Pleasant, Tex. Ex-Royal Dolan Dunigan pitched an inning, striking out two.

METS BEAT OTTAWA II

David Schlosser led the Toronto Mets 16U to a 15-5 win over Ottawa in the final of the Lac St. Louis Montreal tourney.

Vaughan’s Schlosser was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs as the Mets scored 10 times in the fourth.

North York’s Tyler Dobie pitched the final two innings.

Vaughan’s Marc Lepore worked two innings for the save as the Mets beat Lanaudiere 2 4-3 in the semifinal. Dobie has a pair of hits and drove in a run.

The Mets lost the opener to West Milford, N.J., then beat Lanaudiere 1 6-2 and Team Easton 6-4.

Schlosser hit .444 (8-for-18) with a double and five RBIs.

BIG MEN ON CAMPUS

Darnell Duckett hit a two-out triple in the top of the 15th to score Tim Schell and Jonathan Brouse as the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks edged the Guelph Gryphons 9-6 in the longest game of the OUA season. Wes Van Luven pitched seven innings of scoreless relief for the win. Ryan Panas was 3-for-7 with an RBI ... Mississauga right-hander Kyle Breitner of Western Texas Westerners was selected to pitch in the Junior College All-Star weekend at Baylor. Breitner was 6-1 with a 2.79 ERA last spring.
