DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - Baseball is on a short list of sports that will be considered for inclusion in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

It will compete with karate, roller sports, softball, sports climbing, squash, wakeboard and wushu for one spot in the program.

Baseball was dropped, along with softball, from the program for the London Games next summer.

A vote for the 2020 sports will be held during the IOC Session in Buenos Aires in 2013. The IOC will also decide then which city will host the 2020 Games.

Baseball's inclusion on the short list was announced Monday ahead of the 123rd IOC Session in Durban.

Also announced were the inclusion of three more sports on the program for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia: ski slopestyle, snowboard slopestyle and snowboard parallel special slalom. Each event will be held for men and women.

The announcement followed the inclusion in April of women's ski jumping, men's and women's ski halfpipe, biathlon mixed relay and team events in figure skating and luge.
