TORONTO - As far as Blue Jays fans are concerned, the head man at Rogers Communications might as well be Guy Smiley.
And even if you don’t know who Guy Smiley is (blue suit, yellow face, sounds a lot like Kermit the Frog), chances are Guy Smiley is still better known to Jays fans than the actual CEO at Rogers, Guy Laurence.
And isn’t that one of the fundamental problems with the Blue Jays?
When things are going south with this franchise, as has often been the case in the last 21 years, there has been no one in ownership to step up and saying anything good, bad or indifferent. There’s nobody sharing his or her passion with the fans when the Jays crash and burn. There’s no reassurance or promise of better things ahead. There’s no one with the ownership group being held accountable because, quite frankly, fans don’t know who to blame. What are you going to do when the Jays don’t do anything at the trade deadline, scream at the poor sap hooking up your cable?
