Would third baseman Chase Headley (pictured) have looked good in a Blue Jays uniform?

The Jays could have had him.

Headley, who earns $10.25 million this season was dealt from San Diego to the New York Yankees for infielder Yangervis Solarte and minor-leaguer Rafael De Paula, with the Padres paying $1 million of the roughly $4 million remaining on his 2014 contract.

“San Diego was willing to pay all of the remaining money owed to move him to Toronto,” said an executive familiar with the trade talks.

The Jays would have had to give up third baseman Juan Francisco and two lower-level minor leaguers, “not big-time prospects,” for Headley.
