They’re the odd couple of Major League Baseball.

One's a 6-foot-4, home run-crushing, 250-pound mountain of a man.

The other's a 5-foot-10, paper-thin, 175-pound utility man.

It turns out Boston big body David Ortiz has a soft spot for Blue Jays fan favourite Munenori Kawasaki .

The Red Sox slugger told Sportsnet Wednesday night about a dinner date he had with Toronto’s Japanese utility man.

“He made me laugh all night,” Ortiz said. “It’s fun.”

That’s something the fans in Toronto already know.

Kawasaki, a role player at best, is the very definition of a “locker room guy.”

He’s a ball of energy, a player non-Jays fans want to see succeed after he has spent time between the big leagues and Toronto’s triple-A affiliate in Buffalo.

It turns out Kawasaki’s relationship with Ortiz is reciprocal, too.

“He’s Big Papi, you know?” Kawasaki said. “A very big heart. I’m Little Papi.”

The two shared a hug prior to Toronto topping the visiting Red Sox 6-4 at Rogers Centre.

Through 32 games this season, the 33-year-old is batting .279 with five RBI.
