NEW YORK - A year ago at this time, Steve Delabar was accumulating all-star credentials as perhaps the hottest hand in the Blue Jays bullpen.

Today, he’s headed for some remedial work, demoted to the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.

At this point in the 2013 season, Delabar had appeared in 30 games with a 1.80 ERA. This year, he has a 4.68 ERA, the result of reduced velocity, inconsistent command and less bite on his split-finger pitch.

“I’m a guy that has options,” said Delabar. “We had to make a roster move and I’m that guy. They want me to go down and work on some stuff to get me on track to where I was. I’ll be back whenever they need me.”

The Jays needed to find a roster spot for Munenori Kawasaki and did not want to DL Adam Lind, who has a bone bruise on the top of his right foot, or Brett Cecil, who is also trying to get a strained groin healed without a trip to the DL.
