TORONTO - It was as if somebody called for a ceasefire.
The silence around the Rogers Centre the last couple of days has been deafening as the mighty Toronto Blue Jays bats fell silent, blanked on back-to-back days by the same 5-0 score at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Saturday it was Shelby Miller who put a cork in it for St. Louis and Sunday it was crafty veteran Jaime Garcia who mesmerized the Blue Jay bats into a catatonic state, limiting them to three paltry singles over eight innings. Trevor Rosenthal finished it off for St. Louis in the ninth, yielding a fourth single.
Up until this weekend, Toronto had been shut out only once all season, but the Cards managed it twice in 24 hours.
