Marcus Stroman was out for the evening Saturday, making his first visit to Niagara Falls with his girlfriend when the call came from Charlie Wilson, director of minor league operations that he was being promoted to the Blue Jays. Somehow, Stroman’s mother, who was visiting in Buffalo, got the news first.

“It was definitely a surreal moment. She’s been saying for a little bit, ‘Oh, I’ve got a feeling.’ I’m like, ‘Mom, relax.’

“I was pretty ecstatic, I was jumping all around my apartment.”

Stroman spent a sleepless night at his Buffalo apartment, then hopped in a car Sunday morning and was at PNC Stadium by about 10:30 a.m.

He’ll assume a role in the bullpen for now but there’s little doubt his longterm role will be as a starter.

He got into Sunday’s game, relieving Dustin McGowan in the seventh, with mixed results.
