TORONTO - Is Tuesday night going to be Dustin McGowan's last stand?
When McGowan toes the rubber at beautiful Kauffman Stadium against the Kansas City Royals, all indications point to it being a do-or-die outing for the 32-year-old right-hander.
It will mark McGowan’s fifth start of the season. He has been unimpressive in three of four starts — failing to last more than four innings in the trio of rough outings.
In his last outing, against Baltimore last Wednesday, he was staked to an early 6-1 lead and then couldn’t hold it as he gave up two more runs in the third and left the game in the fifth with the bases loaded and nobody out.
Following that performance, McGowan admitted that he was feeling fatigued around the 60-pitch mark, which is a cause for alarm if you happen to be a starting pitcher.
