DUNEDIN - Maybe it’s pride, maybe it’s just familiarity or maybe it’s the Kawasaki factor but manager John Gibbons senses this training camp has an especially good vibe going.

“I feel good about how things have gone so far,” said Gibbons Tuesday. “We’ve had a nice crisp pace, guys are focused. Everybody’s disappointed the way last year went and they’re all focused on improving on that.”

Gibbons talked earlier about how choppy last year’s camp felt because of the many absences of players who went off to play in the WBC.

“We brought a lot of new guys together (last year) and they didn’t really get a chance to be completely comfortable with each other,” he said.

He also touched on another aspect of this camp.

“Maybe it’s the Kawasaki factor,” said Gibbons, referring to the delightful utility man, Munenori Kawasaki. “We didn’t have him here last year (in spring training).”
