DUNEDIN, FLA. - To the surprise of nobody, R.A. Dickey has been designated as the Blue Jays’ opening-day starter.

Last year, the knuckleballer struggled out of the gate but still managed to finish second in the league in innings pitched and led the Jays in wins.

“It’ll be Dickey,” said manager John Gibbons. “We open up in Tampa where he pitches well. He’s had some good outings down there. He’s our guy.”

As for the other four starters, Gibbons hasn’t settled on an order. The fifth game of the year will be the team’s home opener against the Yankees, though it’s not set in stone that the start will fall to the No. 5 man in the rotation.

“We’ll look at and see how it all shakes down,” he said. “Maybe it will depend on who pitches well against the Yankees or something like that. Happ has always pitched well against the Yankees.”
