The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly among the teams talking to Japanese pitching sensation Masahiro Tanaka.
According to CBS Sports, the Blue Jays have had multiple discussions with Tanaka's representatives, Excel Sports Management. But there are apparently a dozen teams involved with trying to sign the free agent righthander who went 24-0 with the Rakuten Golden Eagles last season in Japan.
Tanaka began meeting with teams Wednesday in Chicago and is expected to chat with a number of other teams Friday in the Los Angeles area. It is unknown if the Blue Jays were among the teams Tanaka would sit down with in L.A.
The 25-year-old pitcher is expected to command upwards of $100 million in a free-agent contract. Before a team can sign him, though, it must agree to pay Rakuten the $20 million posting fee.
The Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks are considered the front-runners for Tanaka.
