For the second year in a row, an injury has ended Jose Bautista’s season.

After consulting with hip specialist Dr. Bryan Kelly in New York the decision has been made to shut Bautista down because of a bone bruise on the neck of his left femur, an injury sustained after an awkward slide into home plate in a game just after the All-Star break.

A year ago, Bautista missed a good portion of the second half of the season with a tendon injury, and subsequent surgery, in his left wrist.

Bautista continued to play on the hip injury for a month or so after the initial trauma but eventually the pain became too intense and he sought medical advice.

“It’s been healing nicely, a good progression but the doctor feels I need another two weeks of rest to have it healed completely,” said Bautista Wednesday.
