Of all that is annoying about this Blue Jays season, what makes it just a little bit worse, a little bit more raw, a little more venomous, is that John Farrell is in first place.

And the Blue Jays are in last.

Who saw that coming last October, when Alex Anthopoulos had what he thought was the winter of his dreams, before John Gibbons was hired, when Farrell said thanks, but no thanks, to the Blue Jays and decided to take his talents to Kenmore Square.

Who saw this coming, the Red Sox have gone from last to first, the Blue Jays hoping for first, certain to be last, and Farrell doing everything but smiling like the Benedict Arnold version of the Cheshire cat as the Red Sox began their second series in Toronto — with more wins now than they had all of last year, and the Blue Jays unsure whether they will match the 73-win club Farrell left behind.
