R.A. Dickey had a rough start to his day yesterday as he faced six batters in the first inning and another six in the second but escaped having allowed just one run — a high deep drive into the seats in right by Asdrubal Cabrera in the opening frame.

The next three innings he faced the minimum but ran into more trouble in the sixth when he opened the inning with a hit batter and a walk. It went downhill from there as one out later he walked another batter to load the bases and then Lonnie Chisenhall hit a flare into left that fell in for a single. Two runs would score as left fielder Rajai Davis came up gunning and his throw to the plate sailed to the backstop, allowing a second run to score.

Overall, Dickey allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits, walked three and struck out six. It was a quality start that was flushed down the toilet by sloppy defence and lack of hitting.
