You could say that Brett Cecil took his selection to this year’s MLB All-Star Game lying down.

After being informed on Saturday that he was going to his first Midsummer Classic, the Blue Jays lefty rushed home to tell his wife Jennifer the good news. But when he got there, Jennifer and their young son were sound asleep.

“I just got in bed and laid down — and they slept for an hour and a half,” Cecil said. “So I had to wait the whole time.

“Finally, I had to wake them up at 6:10 because the (all-star selection) show was coming on and I didn’t want them to miss it.”

The Jays reliever said his in-laws, Gina and Dan Jones, called as soon as his name was announced on TV. (Cecil, along with teammates Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista, were informed of their selection prior to Saturday’s game against the Twins, but an embargo was in place until later in the day, so mum was the word).
