If nothing else, J.P. Arencibia keeps proving his immaturity.
The Blue Jays earnest and emotional 27-year-old catcher on Thursday morning appeared on Sportsnet The Fan 590 radio program and spent his segment blasting away at his two harshest on-air critics — Gregg Zaun and Dirk Hayhurst.
It was not the wisest move by Arencibia, who doesn’t understand that he will never win a pissing match with the media, even faux ones such as Zaun and Hayhurst who are both members of the Blue Jays alumni.
Let’s get this straight: The Jays entered the day at a critical point of their season, have lost two in a row to fall two games under .500 and face Justin Verlander in the finale of a four-game series against the Tigers. And the biggest issue on Arencibia’s mind is writing the wrong, silencing the critics?
He doesn’t understand that in doing so he looks like a player that withers under criticism, can’t stand the heat. It makes him look like a whiner, a crybaby.
