Since being pressed into the closer role last season, Casey Janssen has been money in the bank.

In 2012, the 31-year-old right-hander converted 22 of 25 save opportunities and in 2013 has improved on that percentage as he has converted 17 saves in 18 save situations.

What makes Janssen’s success all the more remarkable is the fact that he doesn’t have classic closer stuff. He doesn’t have a power arm where he throws in the high 90s (mph) and doesn’t have an off-the-charts pitch such as Mariano Rivera’s cutter or going back, Bruce Sutter’s splitter.
