TORONTO - Sitting in the dugout prior to Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers, Blue Jays’ GM Alex Anthopoulos was asked about vitriol.

Who is not a shortstop out of Venezuela.

Vitriol, as in bitter fans who may have stopped AA on the street to express their disdain over the fact that his underachieving Jays have started the season 27-35.

Anthopoulos said he does get approached, most recently at the airport when he was talking on the phone and a guy stuck his face up against a mirror where Anthopoulos was standing and gave the Jays GM a thumb’s up. That’s the interesting thing, Anthopoulos said. Despite the team’s struggles, most fans have been remarkably respectful.

“I think human beings in general, especially people in Toronto, are just nice,” Anthopoulos said. “But I would absolutely understand if people said, ‘You know, I’m upset. I’m not happy with the way things have gone.’ And I wouldn’t have a complaint at all.
