One step forward; one step backward.

The Toronto Blue Jays had won eight of 13 headed into Tuesday's encounter with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The offence has been clipping along at a merry pace, second in the league since May 5 in on-base percentage. Second in slugging. Second in OPS.

They had beaten the Rays on Monday, scoring seven runs.

All it had gotten them was still 10 games out of first place. All it got them last night was 4-3 loss, the game ending with Melky Cabrera arguing about a third strike call as Fernando Rodney chalked up a wobbly save.
