Romero back with the Jays

Relax Blue Jays fans, Ricky Romero is coming to the rescue.

 

With the Jays' season sinking out of sight, the return of Romero is the club’s latest ploy to inject some life into its corpse.

On Thursday, the Jays announced they had placing right-hander Josh Johnson on the 15-day disabled list due to inflammation in his right triceps, an issue that prevented him from making his most recent start last Saturday in New York.

Johnso,n who is 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA in four starts, was scheduled to make the start Friday against the Seattle Mariners, but those plans have gone up in smoke.


So, enter Romero, who has been summoned from class-A Dunedin where he had made one start.

Romero, the ‘ace’ of the rotation the previous two seasons, was the most celebrated story of spring training. His mechanics were all messed up and he had trouble finding the strike zone. In the final week, the Jays decided to keep him back at extended spring training in an effort t
