The tears ran down Jose Reyes’ cheek — a poignant and painful stoppage in time — and you wonder how many felt the same in watching the best of the new Blue Jays driven from the field wincing Friday night.

In a way, we are all wincing. The season is less than two weeks old and Reyes is gone, Brett Lawrie hasn’t been here yet, Jose Bautista has been limping on a troubled ankle, Ricky Romero never arrived and the promise of a summer to remember seems already lost before the summer even begins.
