Jose Bautista was back in the Blue Jays lineup following a three-game absence because of a twisted right ankle.

Bautista was in his customary No. 3 spot in the order but was not in right field. In his first game back, as a precautionary move, he was the DH.

With the outfield grass slickened by the intermittent rain, the last thing the Jays wanted was to have their top slugger blow his ankle chasing down a ball.

“I feel pretty good. I feel good enough to play today,” Bautista said after batting practice. “When you first start back you have the luxury of having the DH spot and you never know what can happen when you react to a fly ball and make a break to the ball off the bat. Not risking it is smart and I think I can handle running the bases.
