Jays vote on the best new guy to the team

One by one the newcomers came into camp.

All were asked a simple question:

Of all the newcomers, who is the most important addition and why?

And they were told it’s like voting in an election — for a congressman, a senator, president or prime minister — you go behind the curtain and you have to pick one.

Hard as we tried to get the 25 players from the 2012 Jays to pick one and only one player, some refused to pick one player declaring dead heats. Here is what we did find out.

J.P. Arencibia

Buehrle, Dickey, Johnson: “To win in any league you have to have starting pitching. Now we have it.”

Jose Bautista

Johnson: “He’s on a level no one can touch. He could be a No. 1 starter on a lot of teams.”

Chad Beck

Reyes: “He’s a spark plug. The more runs you score, the more games you win. You can make an argument for Dickey, Buehrle and Johnson, but if you don’t score runs it doesn’t matter how well you pitch.”
