Blue Jays: Ten burning questions

DUNEDIN, FLA. - Two weeks ago, we posed 10 questions at the start of spring training. Now, with the exhibition schedule about to start, we take a look at what we know so far.

1. The Bullpen

In the early going at camp, a couple of things have become clear. For one, Casey Janssen is not as far along in his recovery from shoulder surgery as had been hoped. There is no immediate panic that he isn’t going to be ready to assume the closer’s role at the start of the season, but there isn’t any certainty of it, either.

The second thing we’ve learned is that Sergio Santos is, by all accounts, fully recovered and throwing free, easy and without discomfort. It’s too early to tell if Janssen and Santos will reverse roles but there is little doubt that Santos is the “Plan B” that pitching coach Pete Walker has talked about.
