Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos' plan coming to fruition

DUNEDIN, FLA. - Three years ago, not long after he became the youngest GM in Blue Jays history, Alex Anthopoulos mapped out a plan to rebuild the team into a playoff contender.

That plan was a multi-pronged, grassroots thrust that involved doubling the scouting staff, concentrating on the draft, maximizing the number of compensatory picks they could accumulate and wading into Latin America with a wad of cash and a smile.

The plan, always, was to strike when the time was right by cashing in the accumulated talent in trade when they felt they had a team that was worth expanding the payroll.

This past off-season, the Blue Jays traded away prospects Travis d’Arnaud, Noah Syndergaard, Adeiny Hechavarria, Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick, Yan Gomes, Anthony DeSclafani and Wuilmer Becerra, stripping their farm system of many of its best young hopefuls in exchange for a wealth of big-league talent.

Do you think MLB is taking it too far by having teams open the 2014 season in Australia?
