Jays pitcher Ricky Romero in search of 2011 form
By KEN FIDLIN, QMI Agency

Pitcher Ricky Romero knows that he will have to be at his best to stick with the loaded Blue Jays rotation this season. His underwhelming season of 2012 just won't cut it. (Ken Fidlin/QMI Agency)

DUNEDIN, FLA. - Through January and the first few days of February, the Blue Jay clubhouse at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium has been the hub of pre-spring activity as various players take advantage of the weather and the facilities to put the finishing touches on their off-season training.

With camp set to open early next week, most players took the weekend off, knowing that once the daily grind begins the game will be a relentless taskmaster, consuming their spring, their summer and, they hope, their fall.

Not so for Ricky Romero. Coming off a challenging season in 2012, followed by arthroscopic surgery to clean out debris in his pitching elbow and treatments on his knees, Romero has had little time or appetite for anything that doesn’t involve preparation for the season to come.
