He volunteered for and was turned down for the manager’s job.

Yet, no hard feelings.

Former Cy Young award winner Pat Hentgen will return to the Blue Jays as the bullpen coach on John Gibbons’ staff. It’s a position Hentgen held in 2011, John Farrell’s rookie season.

Hentgen, 44, joins next year’s staff of bench coach DeMarlo Hale, pitching coach Pete Walker, hitting coach Chad Mottola, third base coach Luis Rivera and first base coach Dwayne Murphy.

A Jays ambassador and special assistant to the organization for eight of the previous nine years, Hentgen won the 1996 Cy Young award and pitched 10 seasons with the Jays, including the 1992-93 World Series years.

Is the season lost for the Toronto Blue Jays or is there still time to turn things around?
Plenty of time to get it turned around
They're quickly running out of time
It's lost. When do the Argos start?
It was over before it began
