INDIAN WELLS, CALIF. - Jim Tracy returned home from a hunting trip with Don Gullett to hear that he’d been mentioned often as the next manager of the Blue Jays.
Tracy told pals he had not heard word one from the Jays.
Or for that matter, word two.
We do know that the Jays have not asked the Detroit Tigers for permission to interview either third base coach Gene Lamont, former Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates manager, or hitting coach Lloyd McClendon, former Pirates manager.
They have not asked the New York Yankees for permission to speak to pitching coach Larry Rothschild, former Rays manager or ex-Jay Lee Mazzilli, special assistant to president Randy Levine or bench coach Tony Pena, former Kansas City Royals manager. Jays Edwin Encarnacion is engaged to Pena’s daughter.
Nor have they asked the Arizona Diamondbacks for permission to speak to bench coach Alan Trammell.
So, on we go with the show ...
