TORONTO - Outfielder Rajai Davis is staying, while the Toronto Blue Jays hope lefty Darren Oliver will stay around next season.

The Jays declined the $3-million option on Davis and then signed him to a one-year, $2.5-million deal Wednesday.

Toronto picked up a $3-million option on Oliver, 42, who showed great tempo and excellent control last season, going 3-4 with two saves and an ERA of 2.06 in 62 games. He said during the season he was considering retiring.

Davis, 32, hit .257 with 24 doubles, eight home runs, 43 RBI and 46 stolen bases, second in the American League.

ROSTER SHUFFLING

The Jays claimed lefty Scott Maine on waivers from the Cleveland Indians. Maine, 27, split last season between the Chicago Cubs and Indians, going 2-3 with a 6.07 ERA.

Placed on the Jays' 40-man list were formerly injured pitchers Kyle Drabek, J.A. Happ, Drew Hutchison, Dustin McGowan, Luis Perez and Sergio Santos.

Recently claimed outfielder Scott Cousins and right-hander David Herndon were designated for assignment.
