Blue Jays' Lawrie leaves game with injury

NEW YORK - Fresh off the loss of Jose Bautista on Monday, Blue Jay third baseman Brett Lawrie was removed from Wednesday afternoon's game against the New York Yankees after slamming the back of his lower right leg on the top of a metal fence at Yankee Stadium while attempting to catch a foul ball.
Though he appeared unable to put weight on the leg, initial x-rays showed no fracture. The injury is characterized as a contusion.
With one out in the bottom of the third inning, Mark Teixeira fouled a one-strike pitch toward a camera just beyond the Toronto dugout. Lawrie put himself in position at the fence, then dove into the well to attempt a backhanded catch. In the process, his right leg whipped over his head and his lower calf hit the top of another chain-link fence several feet behind the boundary fence.
Lawrie's condition is listed as day-to-day.
