DUNEDIN — Scott Podsednik is ready to join the battle for a role as one of the Blue Jays bench players, perhaps as soon as Thursday.

Podsednik faced his first live pitching of the spring, stepping in against Brandon Morrow and prospect Henderson Alvarez in a simulated game Tuesday and afterward declared himself fit.

Podsednik, who signed a minor-league contract that will pay him $1 million if he makes the 25-man roster, arrived in camp suffering from plantar fasciitis. Two weeks later he’s ready to play.

“We’re going to go out there and let it go,’ he said. “I feel ready to go. Time to get this show on the road.”

Podsednik made good contact against both Morrow and Alvarez, even hitting a home run against Alvarez.

“I feel really good at the plate,” he said, “given these were my first live pitches of the spring. I was pretty comfortable in there.”

Podsednik will join infielder Mike McCoy and outfielder Corey Patterson in a three-man competition for two spots on the Toronto bench.

Is the season lost for the Toronto Blue Jays or is there still time to turn things around?
Plenty of time to get it turned around
They're quickly running out of time
It's lost. When do the Argos start?
It was over before it began
