Podsednik suffers minor setback

DUNEDIN — Sometime between signing a minor-league contract with the Blue Jays last week and his expected reporting date on Sunday, Scott Podsednik suffered a recurrence of an injury that plagued him last year.

Now Podsednik, who is expected to compete for a spot on the 25-man roster, will be sidelined indefinitely while his left foot is treated for plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the ligament that connects the heel and the toes.

The status of the contract is not affected because, as a minor-league deal, no money is guaranteed. It is believed that if Podsednik makes the 25-man roster, he will be paid $1 million. Podsednik is expected to be in Dunedin by Wednesday.

“He’s currently wearing a boot to keep the foot immobilized,” said manager John Farrell. “Our medical staff will assess him and lay out a plan of attack at that point. We’ll assess how long a treatment period will be needed before he’s ready for baseball activities.”

Is the season lost for the Toronto Blue Jays or is there still time to turn things around?
Plenty of time to get it turned around
They're quickly running out of time
It's lost. When do the Argos start?
It was over before it began
