Toronto - The Toronto Blue Jays have signed pitcher Carlos Villanueva to a one-year, $1.415 million contract.

Sunday's pact allows the two parties to avoid arbitration.

Villanueva posted a 2-0 record with a 4.61 earned run average in 50 relief outings for the Brewers last season and was acquired by the Blue Jays in early December for a player to be named later.

Villanueva has pitched in 230 games -- 27 as a starter -- during his five major league seasons, all with the Brewers, and has compiled a 20-24 record with six saves and a 4.34 ERA.

Is the season lost for the Toronto Blue Jays or is there still time to turn things around?
Plenty of time to get it turned around
They're quickly running out of time
It's lost. When do the Argos start?
It was over before it began
