THE GOOD

Starting pitcher Brett Cecil allowed a leadoff double to Bill Hall in the third but didn't allow a run as he got a ground ball to short, a foul pop to third and fly to centre to end the inning. Cecil allowed just one run in his six innings.

THE BAD

In the second, Vernon Wells opened with a double but didn't score. Lyle Overbay advanced him to third with a ground out but Alex Gonzalez and Randy Ruiz followed by strking out ... The bullpen, which is springing leaks all over the place, came up short in the seventh as Casey Janssen allowed a run on two hits to double Boston's margin to 2-0.

THE UGLY

The Jays managed just one hit against Boston starter Jon Lester and two hits overall as they were shut out for the second time this season ... After Alex Gonzalez opened the eighth with a double against Daniel Bard, manager Cito Gaston sent up three pinch-hitters -- Adam Lind, Fred Lewis and Travis Snider -- and all three struck out.

ON THE MEND

LHP Brian Tallet, on the DL with a sore left forearm, threw 80-times on flat ground from 60-90 feet at the Jays' complex in Dunedin, Fla. Tallet was put on the 15-day DL on April 23, retroactive to April 18.

TODAY'S PITCHERS

Thursday -- Oakland Athletics RHP Justin Duchscherer (2-0, 1.82) vs. Blue Jays LHP Ricky Romero (1-1, 1.80), 7:07 p.m., Sportsnet, The Fan.

Do you think Jesse Litsch will bounce back and pitch for the Blue Jays again?
  Yes, the bullpen needs help
No, his injury was too severe
  I don't want him back
