THE GOOD

Backup catcher Jose Molina threw out base-runners attempting to steal second in the sixth and seventh inning ... Second baseman John McDonald raced in and to his left and batted the ball to first with his glove in time to beat David DeJesus, who dragged a bunt to the first base side of the infield ... In the ninth, LHP Scott Downs picked off Alberto Callaspo at first for the third out of the inning.

THE BAD

In the first inning, RHP Shaun Marcum missed with his location and caught too much of the plate on a 2-1 pitch to Jose Guillen, who hit it on the screws for a three-run home run.

THE UGLY

The 4-5-6 hitters in the Jays lineup -- centre fielder Vernon Wells, first baseman Lyle Overbay and third baseman Jose Bautista -- combined to go 0-for-12 with eight strikeouts.

ROSTER MOVES

Following their loss on Wednesday, the Blue Jays announced they were placing 3B Edwin Encarnacion on the 15-day disabled list because of shoulder soreness, retroactive to April 15, as well as LHP Brian Tallet (left forearm soreness) retroactive to April 18. 2B Aaron Hill, who is on the DL with a right hamstring injury, is scheduled to be activated Friday while LHP Brett Cecil has been called up to take Tallet's spot in the rotation on Friday.

The Jays didn't know how long Tallet is expected to be out, and neither did Tallet.

"It's one of those things where it doesn't feel like the ligament," he said. "I'm not really sure what it is -- that's the thing. We're going to go get an MRI (Thursday) to find out more. But all the strength tests, as far as with ligaments and stuff like that, it's all been positive. Everything's checked out OK. Once we get this addressed, we'll get the pain and get that knocked out, that way I can actually be able to help the team. Right now, I can't help the team."

GOT A GUN

Blue Jays catcher Jose Molina threw out two base runners in Wednesday's game, both at second base. On the season he has thrown out three of four potential base-stealers. John Buck, by comparison, has thrown out just one of 11 potential base-stealers.

MINOR MATTERS

Mighty Mite Tim Collins, the 5-foot-7 reliever for double-A New Hampshire, is off to a good start.

On Tuesday, Collins picked up his first save of the season, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth. In four appearances this season, Collins, 20, has allowed just one hit in 5 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out 10. He has yet to allow a run.

Do you think Jesse Litsch will bounce back and pitch for the Blue Jays again?
  Yes, the bullpen needs help
No, his injury was too severe
  I don't want him back
