EXTRA ADDITION

Despite the fact they are tied with Baltimore for the 11th worst batting average in the league (.230), the Jays entered Sunday's game fourth in runs scored in the American League with 56, were tied for the most homers in the majors with 17 and lead in extra-base hits with 51.

HOMER HAPPY

LHP Brian Tallet, who took the loss in Saturday's 6-3 defeat against the Angels, is suffering from forearm soreness, the result of throwing a high number of cutters. "I hope it's not anything serious," manager Cito Gaston said. "We'll monitor it and see how he feels going from there." In three starts, Tallet is 1-1 with a 6.11 ERA and has surrendered two home runs in each of his starts. The six home runs he's allowed ties him with the Twins' Nick Blackburn for the most homers surrendered in the major leagues.

FIRST START

Newly acquired OF Fred Lewis (traded to the Jays from the San Francisco Giants for future considerations) got his first start for the Jays on Sunday in LF and batting leadoff, went 1-for-4. He doubled in the third inning and stole third. Lewis made his debut with Toronto on Saturday, entering the game as a pinch-hitter in the ninth. Facing Angels closer Fernando Rodney, Lewis took two changeups for strikes then struck out with a checked swing on a 97-m.p.h. fastball. "Welcome to the American League," Gaston said.

TRIUMPHANT TRIO

Following Sunday's game, SS Alex Gonzalez, LF/DH Adam Lind and CF Vernon Wells, the 2-3-4 hitters in the Jays lineup, have combined to hit .327 (50-for-153) with 13 home runs and 29 RBIs. The rest of the club has hit .154 (44-for-286) with five homers and 26 RBIs.

SIGH YOUNG

Zach Greinke, the Cy Young Award winner for the Kansas City Royals, who open a three-game series against the Jays on Monday, is off to a rough start. In his opening three starts, Greinke is 0-2 with a 3.57 ERA. The right-hander has allowed 20 hits in 17.2 innings, walked six and struck out 14. The opposition is hitting him at a .286 clip. Greinke gets the start against Shaun Marcum on Wednesday.
