Jays duck Doc
Halladay won't pitch for Phillies in Friday's game

DUNEDIN — The Blue Jays will be playing the Philadelphia Phillies Friday but they won’t have to endure facing Roy Halladay.

Halladay will make his spring debut when the New York Yankees come to Clearwater on Thursday. Cole Hamels has been given the starting assignment when the Phils come to Dunedin on Friday.

The Jays have not yet announced their pitching plans for the week, including their opening game Wednesday at Knology Park against the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers will send Jeremy Bonderman to the mound in that game. When the Jays go back to Lakeland, the Tigers’ spring hom, on Thursday, they’ll face righthander Rick Porcello, among others.

The Jays will play the Phillies three times in total this spring, including a game on Wednesday, March 31. If, as expected, Halladay will be the Phils’ opening day starter in Washington the following Monday, then this would likely be his final tuneup.
