CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs still want to send Milton Bradley to the Blue Jays.
The latest is a three-team deal in which the Blue Jays send first baseman Lyle Overbay to the New York Mets, the Mets send second baseman Luis Castillo to the Cubs and the Jays wind up with Bradley.
The Jays will give a player a second chance, but not a fifth or sixth or whatever chance Bradley is working on, much similar to when they turned down free-agent lefty reliever Steve Howe years ago.
The Cubs have zero interest in adding centre fielder Vernon Wells.
Nothing in the desert
Talks between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Jays about catcher Chris Snyder for Overbay had reached an impasse.
The deal would have seen the Diamondbacks add roughly $4 million US in cash as Snyder is under contract for 2010-11, while Overbay is entering the final year of his contract.
Jays doc tors examined Snyder on the weekend in Dunedin.
Waiver cliam
Jays claimed infielder Mike McCoy on waivers from the Colorado Rockies. The 5-foot-9 McCoy hit .307 with 27 doubles, five triples, two homers and 52 RBIs at triple-A Colorado Springs.
He stole 40 bases and scored 102 runs.
The Jays also added to the Brian Dopirak .317, 27, 102) to the 40-man roster from triple-A Las Vegas.
The rankings are in
The Elias Sports Bureau rankings of potential free agents sanctioned by the Major League Baseball Players Association are out. Free-agent shortstop Marco Scutaro is classified as a Type A free agent, while catcher Rod Barajas was classified as a Type B.
Teams that lose a Type A to whom they offered arbitration are compensated with the signing club's first or second-round pick (depending where they are drafting) and a sandwich pick.
If Type B free agents sign, like Barajas with another team, the Jays get a sandwich pick (between the first and second round) as compensation.
The Jays already will get extra selections in the June draft since they did not sign Kentucky University lefty James Paxton of Ladner, B.C. (37th over-all); Newmarket lefty Jake Eliopoulos (68th) and right-hander Jake Barrett, an Arizona high schooler (99th) in August.
